Women's safety and well-lit stations for night charging

Charging often means waiting, sometimes at night. What makes a charging station feel safe, for drivers and for site owners.

SOS CCTV

Charging takes time, and drivers sometimes need to charge late at night or alone. Every driver should feel safe at a charging station, and many women drivers tell us that safety is one of their first concerns when choosing where to charge.

For drivers

  • Choose stations with activity: sites at malls, hotels, fuel stations or restaurants with staff and other people around.
  • Check reviews and photos in charging apps for lighting and security.
  • Plan night stops in advance so you are not searching in the dark.
  • Share your live location with someone you trust on long or late trips.
  • Stay in the car with doors locked if you feel uncomfortable, and keep your phone charged.
  • Leave if something feels wrong. Your safety matters more than the charge.
  • Save emergency numbers: the national emergency number 112 and the women's helpline 181.

For site owners and operators

FeatureWhy it matters
Bright, even lightingRemoves dark corners around bays and walkways

Help or SOS buttonA direct line to help at any hour
Location near activityStaffed or busy areas feel safer than isolated corners
Clear sightlinesDrivers can see who is around them

Safety features are not extras. A station that feels unsafe at night will lose customers, and those customers will tell others.
