The monsoon tests every outdoor electrical installation. A short checklist before the rains arrive protects chargers, drivers and revenue.
Before the monsoon
- Inspect enclosures and seals on chargers, cabinets and junction boxes for cracks or gaps.
- Check drainage around bays and equipment; clear blocked drains and gullies.
- Confirm equipment height above likely flood levels, and plan to raise any low equipment.
- Test earthing and protective devices such as residual current protection.
- Check cable routes and ducts for water ingress.
- Inspect canopies and roofs for leaks and secure fixings against strong wind.
- Check lightning protection and surge protection devices.
- Service cooling systems and clean filters, as humidity can affect electronics.
During the monsoon
- Monitor chargers remotely for faults linked to moisture.
- Have a plan to shut down chargers safely if a site floods, and to tell drivers through apps.
- Keep signage clear on what to do in standing water.
After heavy rain or flooding
- Do not re-energise flooded equipment until it has been inspected by a qualified technician.
- Dry, test and, if needed, replace affected components.
- Record inspections for insurance and compliance.
Remote monitoring is your early warning system in the monsoon. Moisture-related faults often show up in charger data before they cause a failure.
